A Chinese grandfather has won worldwide fame after photographs of him modelling women#39;s clothing were posted to the internet. Seventy-two-year-old Liu Xianping posed in outfits from his granddaughter#39;s fashion store Yuekou for a joke. But when Ms Lv posted the snaps online, the two were surprised to find the photos go viral almost overnight.72岁的刘谦平为外孙女的天猫网店悦蔻当女装模特,起初只是觉得好玩。 What began as a lighthearted joke fast became a successful publicity campaign after the images went global - and Ms Lv saw sales soar. According to China Newsweek, Ms Lv said the stunt was all her grandfather#39;s idea. #39;He picked up one piece and tried to give some advice on how to mix and match,#39; she said. #39;We thought it was fun so we started shooting.#39;根据《中国新闻周刊》的报道,吕说拍摄这组照片都是外公的主意。 The outfits, designed for teenaged girls, feature bright pink capes, striped tights and over the knee socks, with plenty of lace, ribbon and frippery. Posing in a sequence of outfits, his long slim legs and slender physique shows Yuekou#39;s clothing off to its full advantage - and has earned the store infinite more hits than if a regular model had been used. Indeed, since Liu#39;s photographs, posted on Tmall, one of China#39;s leading retail sites, went viral, sales at Yuekou have increased fivefold. For his part, Liu told China Newsweek that he is glad to model for the store - and happy to be able to help his family. #39;Why unacceptable for someone like me to wear women’s clothes? Modelling for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose,#39; he said. #39;We were very happy on the day of the shooting. I’m very old and all that I care about is to be happy.#39;他表示:“我这样的人穿女装拍照片有什么不能接受的?

Baby boys are more sensitive to stress in the womb子宫中的男婴对压力更敏感May explain why maternal stress and disorders such as autism and schizophrenia are more common in boys因受母体的压力和精神失常因素影响,所以,如自闭症和精神分裂症在男孩中较常见A pregnant women can transmit the damaging effects of stress to her unborn child through the placenta, say researchers. Scientists believe it could explain known links between maternal stress and disorders such as autism and schizophrenia, which are more common and serious in male offspring. #39;Almost everything experienced by a woman during a pregnancy has to interact with the placenta in order to transmit to the foetus,#39; said lead researcher Dr Tracy Bale, from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine in the U.S. #39;Now we have a marker that appears to signal to the foetus that its mother has experienced stress.#39;现在我们研究发现胎儿的表现信号与母亲所经历的压力因素有关。The researchers studied female mice that were exposed to mild stresses such as the smell of foxes or unfamiliar noises during the first week of pregnancy. They identified an enzyme called OGT that was present at lower levels in the placentas of stressed mice than in unstressed mice. Male offspring placentas also had lower natural levels of OGT than those attached to female offspring. Further research showed that cutting levels of OGT triggered changes in more than 370 genes in the brains of unborn mice. Many of these genes play a role in functions critical to neurological development, such as energy use, protein regulation and creating nerve cell connections. Analysis of human placentas discarded after the birth of male babies showed evidence of reduced OGT levels. The results suggest that OGT may protect the brain during pregnancy. Males have less of the protein to begin with, placing them at greater risk if their mothers are stressed. #39;We want to get to the point where we can predict the occurrence of neurodevelopmental disease,#39; said Dr Bale. #39;If we have a marker for exposure, we can meld that with what we know about the genetic profiles that predispose individuals to these conditions and keep a close eye on children who have increased risks.#39;如果我们发现这一迹象,再加上我们对基因结构的了解,预测个人对这些条件的了解并密切关注孩子们的风险增加情况。

I was lucky enough to discover a book called, The Introvert Advantage (How To Thrive in an Extrovert World), by Marti Laney, Psy.D. I feel like someone has written an encyclopedia entry on a rare race of people to which I belong. Not only has it explained many of my eccentricities, it helps me to redefine my entire life in a new and positive context. A section of Laney’s book maps out the human brain and explains how neuro-transmitters follow different dominant paths in the nervous systems of Introverts and Extroverts. If the science behind the book is correct, it turns out that Introverts are people who are over-sensitive to Dopamine, so too much external stimulation overdoses and exhausts them. Conversely, Extroverts can’t get enough Dopamine, and they require Adrenaline for their brains to create it. Extroverts also have a shorter pathway and less blood-flow to the brain. The messages of an Extrovert’s nervous system mostly bypass the Broca’s area in the frontal lobe, which is where a large portion of contemplation takes place. Unfortunately, according to the book, only about 25% of people are Introverts. There are even fewer that are as extreme as I am. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings, since society doesn’t have very much experience with my people. (I love being able to say that.) So here are a few common misconceptions about Introverts (I put this list together myself, some of them are things I actually believed):不幸的是,根据这本书,只有大约 25% 的人是内向的,而像我这样极端的就更是少上加少了,这导致了许多的误解,因为社会对我们这类人缺乏足够的了解(我很高兴我能够这样说)。 This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days. Myth #2 – Introverts are shy. Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite. Myth #3 – Introverts are rude. Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting. Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people. On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in. Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public. Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re y to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts. Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone. Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time. Myth #7 – Introverts are weird. Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy. Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds. Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them. Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun. Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up. Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts. A world without Introverts would be a world with few scientists, musicians, artists, poets, filmmakers, doctors, mathematicians, writers, and philosophers. That being said, there are still plenty of techniques an Extrovert can learn in order to interact with Introverts. (Yes, I reversed these two terms on purpose to show you how biased our society is.) Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.
